INTRODUCING THE LIMITED EDITION MARK RICHARDS BOX SET XL
FCS is pleased to present a limited edition box set of career-defining fins designed by four-time World Champion Mark Richards.
Scroll through the annals of surfing history and few names rank as highly as Mark Richards.
With four world titles and an illustrious career as one of the best shapers in the world, Mark has long been regarded by many as one of the most influential figures in surfing.
Mark's innovative twin fin design is still relevant today and has enabled surfers to perform on waves like never before.
These three limited edition FCS II fins offer a snapshot of MR’s storied career and his diverse array of era-defining twin fin templates: the Freeride Twin, the ’78 and the Super Twin +1.
Ride them, cherish them and awaken your inner MR while taking advantage of the speed and turning freedom that are synonymous with these iconic fin setups.
Each box set will also come with a limited edition MR postcard autographed by Mark.
SUPER TWIN + 1
The FCS II MR Super Twin + 1 features a modern twist on the original freeride and '78 twin designs. The idea behind this template was to take the essence of those early fins - their speed and high pivot characteristics - and combine the template with modern style twins and hybrids by adding control and providing a more predictable feel.
This was done by reducing the surface area, adding more sweep (rake), and introducing a smaller stabilizer fin that creates a wider range of usability. With a flat inside face and low to neutral sweep, the MR Super Twin +1 delivers a balance of pivot, release, and control. With a progressive approach to board riding in mind, this fin set is fast and loose with enough hold to confidently get off the bottom and carve out nice turns. The Super Twin +1 gives you even more control off the tail and lets you take advantage of the twin benefits.
'78 TWIN
The FCS II MR '78 is the second iteration of Mark's world-dominating twin fin concept. Developed since 1978 and refined in the early '80s, Mark was looking to create a more "all-around" twin fin that was loose and responsive in everyday small waves. The '78 combined plenty of stability with rotational freedom that was key to the smooth yet aggressive surfing that Mark wanted to apply in a variety of conditions and locations around the world.
With such a large surface area, these fins generate incredible drive and forward projection. They are intended to be used without a stabilizer for maximum drive and pivot. The balance of area, low sweep, and fuller tip allows them to take very tight arcs while still providing plenty of control for confidence when pushing hard off the bottom or carving long turns.
The straight twin design is recommended for twin and mid-length boards and is suitable for a wide range of situations. It is also suitable for modern fish, funboards, and hybrid models.
FREERIDE TWIN
The FCS II MR Freeride Twin takes you back to 1976-1977, when Mark was reinventing the way surfers rode waves. The combination of the original Freeride fins cut from old fiberglass skateboard decks and the MR's innovative new surfboard design changed the direction of surfing and surfboard design forever.
The Freeride Twin allowed Mark to embrace the surfing style that has led to his four-year campaign for consecutive world titles. The template is primarily designed to perform in the wide range of conditions Mark has experienced on the pro tour, including smaller beach breaks and smaller days out at Off the Wall and Haleiwa in Hawaii.
The tip is thinner and more sleek than his signature '78 and Super Twin +1 templates, enhancing the ability to pivot and rotate freely. This fin sits much deeper in the water to help anchor and stabilize the tail in more powerful situations or when executing sharper turns. The high gloss finish and tinted fiberglass panels recreate the look of the original fin.
Recommended for straight twin models with longer walls and larger, cleaner waves.
